Old English can be said to have enjoyed a diglossic relationship of one kind with Latin, which was used in England for much serious writing. Dozens of Latin words, mostly to do with religion and scholarship, entered Old English, although Old English was also used for literary and technical prose in addition to being employed in verse of many kinds. Latin no longer had native speakers in Britain at this time.
